Waterscapes : I used to live on the beach in South east England, well, not like in a box or anything but you know what I mean, now I live half way up a mountain in Southern France, what any of that has to do with coastal images I don't know; what I was going to write is, The Beach. Where reality is totally unpredictable. The tide changes the coastal landscape twice every day. Mostly subtley, sometimes dramatically. The new is swept in and the old washed away. Winter season and early mornings are my preferred times for going to the beach. No dawn is ever the same, some breath taking, some gently pleasing. New colours, new things to find and new beginnings. On stormy days the power is simply awesome, sea-defenses are built to keep the tide back, breakers installed on the beach to stop it stealing the sand and shingle but the sea has the strength and patience to wear them down and in moments of frustration, it just breaks them. But I've written the nonsense about living here and there now so don't ponder on the state of my sanity, that's my job, you just move on and have a look at the pictures

Creatures Great & Small : Just creatures that I come across from time to time regardless of species. Wildlife is an all encompassing term used to describe the living breathing creatures that inhabit our landscapes, be they urban or rural, mountainous or coastal, desert or glacial, something lives there. So right in front of us, no matter where we are on the planet, is an abundance of amazing creatures, all integral to our very existence as well as the survival of every other creature and plant. I have never ceased to wonder at these interwoven existences, all the fauna and flora, each dependant on the other, each developed to their particular environment, many unique to that environment and many of them adapting to and utilizing man made environments, all doing so without a team of advisors, designers, engineers and definitely without saying "I can't...". They all just get on and live their lives and couldn't care less about creating an image of themselves to impress the next door nieghbour (except in the mating season of course!) or getting a loan to buy the latest car... Where did we go so very wrong?

People : People are a source of constant fascination. In general terms we can categorize people in several ways. Good People; Bad People. Happy People; Sad People. Winners; Losers. In real terms we can't truly categorize people at all, everyone is an individual, we are born with traits of our parents and we learn much from them. Then as we grow, our education into life is gleaned from our experiences, second by second, hour by hour, day by day we see, we experience, we feel, we learn and from the cradle to the grave we change as we learn and each of us is an individual person. When I portray people, I like to picture them as they are and not in contrived situations or poses, simply, in their natural light.

Landscapes : I really should settle down a bit, all this wandering about isn't normal but I can't help it Doctor look at this for example, Landscapes, What defines a landscape? We are in them, part of them, everyday. Be they full of fields, by the sea, on a riverbank or up a mountain. Surrounded by buildings perhaps or nothing there at all. Except, there's no such thing as nothing at all. None are boring or desolate. It's often the small things in the landscape that makes it. Everything is there for you to enjoy, anywhere, everywhere, anytime, all the time. Often I find new things to see simply by going down a path I usually walk up, or by turning left at a point I would ordinarily turn right. Look up instead of down. When you watch a sunset, turn around, see what the light is doing to the things behind you, it may only be subtle but, it could be breath-taking. Look into the landscape as opposed to looking at it. Anyway, thats one of my numerous excuses for being on the move so no excuses, get a shift on and look at the piccies....

Manmadescapes : This gallery is landscapes that man has altered to suit his own wants as well as structures. (do note I used the word 'wants' not 'needs'). I used to call these types of image 'architectural' but having travelled extensively and made a career out of looking and seeing what is around us I have come to the conclusion that modern architecture and modern day architects totally lack anything inspirational or interesting and just as well use photoshop clone tools to design anything. How nice would it be if they could step out side of their cloistered little mindsets and leave the glass box geometric shapes in the playroom and be a bit more adventurous with out resorting to the extreme in rediculous? I dare say there are a few architects around who don't court the rediculous to try and win an award but sadly, haven't knowingly seen one yet (Noticed how they all dress the same too? Strange)Never mind, rant over, our forebears had some real inspiration and the designers at the local building firms can be pretty cute with a pen and paper when they want too. Check out the piccies....

Your Bio

I am an artist and photographer first and foremost.
I believe totally in the creativity that is an integral part of people, of every person on this planet. I have no idea of the meaning of life beyond chicken and mushroom soup and absolutely love being out in the wilds regardless of rain, snow, sun, heat or cold. I do not, however, enjoy the wind blowing. It plays havoc when trying to paint, draw or photograph and is generally a pain.
